{"id":71574,"date":"2025-10-13T10:52:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T10:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/71574\/"},"modified":"2025-10-13T10:52:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T10:52:07","slug":"woody-allen-pays-tribute-to-diane-keaton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/71574\/","title":{"rendered":"Woody Allen Pays Tribute to Diane Keaton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/woody-allen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_woody-allen_1\" data-tag=\"woody-allen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Woody Allen<\/a> paid tribute to his former muse, romantic partner and lifelong friend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/diane-keaton\/\" id=\"auto-tag_diane-keaton_1\" data-tag=\"diane-keaton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Diane Keaton<\/a>, w<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/diane-keaton-dead-annie-hall-godfather-1236398458\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ho died on Saturday, aged 79<\/a>, in a heartfelt essay published in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/woody-allen-remembers-diane-keaton\" target=\"_blank\">The Free Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s grammatically incorrect to say \u2018most unique,\u2019 but all rules of grammar, and I guess anything else, are suspended when talking about Diane Keaton,\u201d writes Allen about the Oscar-winning actress and style icon. \u201cUnlike anyone the planet has experienced or is unlikely to ever see again, her face and laugh illuminated any space she entered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAllen recalled meeting Keaton when she was cast opposite him in his 1969 play Play it Again, Sam. After a week of not talking to each other \u2014 \u201cShe was shy, I was shy, and with two shy people things can get pretty dull.\u201d \u2014\u00a0Allen notes, they shared lunch during a break in rehearsals. \u201cThat was our first moment of personal contact. The upshot is that she was so charming, so beautiful, so magical, that I questioned my sanity. I thought: Could I be in love so quickly?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe two quickly became a couple and Keaton was the first person Allen would show his work to, with her opinion the only one that mattered.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI never read a single review of my work and cared only what Keaton had to say about it. If she liked it, I counted the film as an artistic success. If she was less than enthusiastic, I tried to use her criticism to reedit and come away with something she felt better about,\u201d he writes. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAllen is effusive in his praise for Keaton\u2019s own artistic talents, noting, alongside her acting, dancing and singing ability, that she \u201calso wrote books and did photography, made collages, decorated homes, and directed films,\u201d but that she remained, \u201ca beautiful yokel\u201d with deep ties to her family and upbringing in rural Orange County. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAllen recalls a Thanksgiving at Keaton\u2019s family home, where he played penny poker with the Keaton clan and ended the big winner, \u201cclearing about 80 cents,\u201d which made the rest of the family suspicious. \u201cThey  thought I was hustling them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFor many years, Keaton was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/diane-keaton-critic-appreciation-1236398831\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allen\u2019s artistic muse<\/a>, appearing in several of his films, including her titular, Oscar-winning turn in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/annie-hall\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Annie Hall<\/a>, which won her the Oscar. She starred in a total of 8 of Allen\u2019s films, including the film version Play It Again, Sam (1972), Sleeper (1973), Love and Death (1975), Interiors (1978), Manhattan (1979), Radio Days (1987) and Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993). <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAllen presented Keaton with the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2017, saying: \u201cMuch of what I\u2019ve accomplished in my life I owe, for sure, to her. Seeing life through her eyes. She really is astonishing. This is a woman who is great at everything she does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tKeaton and Allen remained close, and the actress publicly defended Allen through his public controversies. Most recently, during the #MeToo era, when allegations from former partner Mia Farrow resurfaced, accusing Allen of having abused their daughter, Dylan Farrow. Allen has always denied the allegations. \u201cWoody Allen is my friend and I continue to believe him,\u201d Keaton wrote at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAfter \u201ca few great personal years together,\u201d Allen notes in his essay, \u201cwe both moved on, and why we parted only God and Freud might be able to figure out.\u201d Reflecting on her passing, Allen remarks that \u201ca few days ago, the world was a place that included Diane Keaton. Now it\u2019s a world that does not. Hence, it\u2019s a drearier world. Still, there are her movies.
