\n\tMia Wasikowska<\/a> is stepping behind the camera to co-helm \u201cThe Great White,\u201d an offbeat legal dramedy for ABC Australia. The actor-turned-filmmaker will share directing duties with Nash Edgerton<\/a> on the six-part redemption tale, led by Hugo Weaving<\/a> and produced by See-Saw Films<\/a>, the outfit behind \u201cSlow Horses.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Aussie star had previously honed her craft contributing shorts to anthology films \u201cThe Turning\u201d and \u201cMadly.\u201d She is currently serving as the 2025 artist-in-residence at the Australian Film Television and Radio School. <\/p>\n

\n\tSet to shoot next year, the series follows Weaving as Alan Armstrong \u2014 a brilliant but disgraced lawyer who\u2019s forced to represent a dog on death row, setting him on an unexpected path toward redemption and self-discovery. Ange Betzien (\u201cApple Cider Vinegar\u201d) and Nick Coyle (\u201cSarah\u2019s Channel,\u201d \u201cBump\u201d) co-wrote the shaggy dog dramedy, while Mediawan<\/a> Rights with the participation of Entourage Ventures handle international distribution.<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this year, Mediawan acquired a 51% stake in British-Australian indie powerhouse See-Saw Films, marking another milestone in the European group\u2019s rapid global expansion. The fast-growing production and distribution giant has made a string of high-profile moves in recent years, including taking a majority stake in Brad Pitt\u2019s Plan B in late 2022. Next, the Paris-based powerhouse will relocate its distribution arm to London under former All3Media International executive Sally Habbershaw.<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier today, Mediawan Rights<\/a> announced a slate of new acquisitions at a Mipcom<\/a> presentation. Among them include dramas \u201cThe Great White,\u201d \u201cTargets,\u201d and \u201cBelphegor;\u201d the science-and-sports factual \u201cOpen Brain;\u201d the music-doc \u201cThe Blind Couple From Mali,\u201d about singers Amadou & Mariam; and the Alexandre Dumas-inspired game show \u201cThe Heirs of Monte-Cristo.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tProduced by Mediawan subsidiary DEMD and directed by Ivan Fegyveres (\u201cBlood Coast\u201d), the six-part thriller \u201cTarget\u201d follows a former bodyguard turned fugitive who must clear his name and rescue his ex-wife and children after being accused of their kidnapping. Action lead Tomer Sisley (\u201cBalthazar,\u201d \u201cLargo Winch\u201d) stars opposite \u201cDancing With the Stars\u201d breakout performer Fauve Hautot. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLupin\u201d star Shirine Boutella leads the four-part supernatural thriller \u201cBelphegor,\u201d produced by Path\u00e9 and directed by J\u00e9r\u00e9my Mainguy. The series follows a Louvre art restorer who uncovers a cursed Mesopotamian mask tied to the storm god Baal Phegor, drawing her into a web of disappearances and dark secrets. HBO Max and M6 co-commissioned. <\/p>\n

\n\tInspired by the Alexandre Dumas classic, \u201cThe Heirs of Monte-Cristo\u201d builds on a brand that Mediawan subsidiaries Chapter 2, Palomar, and DEMD Productions have successfully explored on both the big and small screens. This reality competition series brings 12 contestants into the Count\u2019s mysterious castle, where they face high-stakes physical challenges, shifting alliances, and moral tests in a quest for his legendary treasure. What begins as a simple hunt quickly evolves into a game of vengeance and betrayal, with only one contestant destined to claim Monte Cristo\u2019s riches.<\/p>\n
