Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Don\u010di\u0107 made his preseason debut against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, finishing with 25 points in a 113-104 loss<\/a>. Don\u010di\u0107 has been resting the entire preseason up until this point, as the Lakers\u2019 focus has been for the 26-year-old superstar to recover from summer commitment playing for the Slovenian national team in EuroBasket.<\/p>\n Doncic, who played just over 22 minutes, finished with 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists.<\/p>\n Coach JJ Redick says the Lakers will look to get Don\u010di\u0107 ready to go as the regular season nears.<\/p>\n \u201cI would say there will most likely be a ramp-up from Game 1 to Game 2 in Luka\u2019s minutes,\u201d Redick said. \u201cWhat that total number looks like, we\u2019re still talking to Javy [Barrio, Don\u010di\u0107\u2019s athletic trainer] and Luka about what kind of makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n Marcus Smart also made his preseason debut, playing just over 20 minutes.<\/p>\n \u201cYou want to put your five best players on the court as much as possible. You also want to have balance with every lineup,\u201d Redick said. \u201cWhen we do our substitution metrics: who is going to guard? Who is going to create? Are we going to have enough shooting? So you\u2019re doing that with every lineup you put out there, including the starting lineup.\u201d<\/p>\n
