{"id":77632,"date":"2025-10-16T04:15:17","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T04:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/77632\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T04:15:17","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T04:15:17","slug":"flooat-and-fredericia-design-tokyo-showroom-as-quiet-plain-canvas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/77632\/","title":{"rendered":"Flooat and Fredericia design Tokyo showroom as &#8220;quiet, plain canvas&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Danish furniture brand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/showroom\/fredericia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fredericia<\/a> worked with local studio Flooat for the launch of its first showroom in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/tokyo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tokyo<\/a>, which has a minimalist interior that nods to its location in an industrial concrete building.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fredericia.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fredericia<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flooat.jp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Flooat<\/a> designed the showroom, which is located in Tokyo&#8217;s central <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/omotesando\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Omotesando<\/a> area, to combine the aesthetics of Denmark and Japan.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2258010 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/fredericia-flooat-tokyo-showroom_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Wooden furniture in Tokyo showroom\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1577\"  \/>The building&#8217;s concrete walls are on display in the showroom<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our vision was for the space to feel more like a design gallery than a conventional showroom: simple, understated and sensory,&#8221; Fredericia&#8217;s head of design Maria Bruun told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The aim was to create a Scandinavian, or more specifically Danish, design environment in the heart of Tokyo that celebrates tactility, craftsmanship and material honesty.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2258015 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/fredericia-flooat-tokyo-showroom_dezeen_2364_col_7-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Wooden chairs and table\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The space was designed to let Fredericia&#8217;s furniture take centre stage<\/p>\n<p>Flooat&#8217;s interior design also aimed to create a space where Fredericia&#8217;s furniture, which includes design classics by Danish architects such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/hans-j-wegner\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hans J Wegner<\/a>, would take centre stage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The concept was to create a serene backdrop through exposed concrete, allowing the warmth and intricate detailing of Danish furniture to stand out,&#8221; Flooat interior designer Yumika Yoshida told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The space functions as a quiet, plain canvas that highlights the furniture while embracing subtle industrial textures and traces of craftsmanship.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2258011 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/fredericia-flooat-tokyo-showroom_dezeen_2364_col_3-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Living room corner in Fredericia showroom\" width=\"1892\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Fredericia and Flooat wanted it to have a homely feel<\/p>\n<p>The studio also wanted the showroom to feel like a home, and referenced specific aspects of Japanese residential interiors to give it a light, clean feel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Special attention was given to creating an atmosphere that resonates with the spatial sensibilities of Japanese homes \u2013 valuing emptiness, subtle textures, and the beauty of restraint,&#8221; Yoshida said.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/09\/25\/frama-first-international-store-tokyo-wellbeing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/frama-shibuya-parco-tokyo_dezeen_2364_col_sq3-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Interior of Frama Tokyo\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Frama designs first international store in Tokyo to &#8220;reflect the architecture of wellbeing&#8221;\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The concrete building where the showroom is located has an industrial feel, which also informed the interior.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The studio sits within a building with a distinctly industrial character, a composition of steel, glass and concrete that gives it a slightly brutalist edge,&#8221; Bruun said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It opens directly onto the street on a corner site, which means the space feels very connected to the urban flow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2258016 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/fredericia-flooat-tokyo-showroom_dezeen_2364_col_8-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Kitchen corner in Tokyo showroom\" width=\"1892\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Greige walls and a terrazzo floor contrast the wooden furniture<\/p>\n<p>Inside, colours were kept neutral, with greige walls and floors contrasting against the natural wood that much of the brand&#8217;s furniture is made of.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By bridging the shared spirit between Nordic and Japanese aesthetics, the space invites visitors to naturally envision how these pieces might inhabit their own lives,&#8221; Yoshida said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2258009 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/fredericia-flooat-tokyo-showroom_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Wooden furntiure by Fredericia\" width=\"1892\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The interior combines Danish and Japanese design<\/p>\n<p>Fredericia and Flooat added a terrazzo floor and applied the wall paint by hand to leave &#8220;subtle marks of craftsmanship&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The palette evolved naturally from the materials and light in the space,&#8221; Bruun explained. &#8220;We wanted the atmosphere to feel calm, bright and tactile, so we worked with soft, warm whites and gentle neutrals that complement the terrazzo floor,&#8221; she continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our goal was to create a subtle, gallery-like backdrop that allows the furniture and materials to speak for themselves.
