Al Pacino<\/a> is honoring the memory of Diane Keaton<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Days after the Oscar-winning actress died following a battle with pneumonia at the age of 79<\/a>, her Godfather costar\u2014with whom she also had an on-again-off-again relationship with from 1974 to 1990\u2014penned a heartbreaking homage to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I first heard the news, I was shaken,\u201d Pacino wrote in his tribute shared by Deadline<\/a> Oct. 16. \u201cDiane was my partner, my friend, someone who brought me happiness and on more than one occasion influenced the direction of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 85-year-old noted that although they hadn\u2019t been together in over thirty years, \u201cthe memories remain vivid, and with her passing, they have returned with a force that is both painful and moving.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pacino went on to praise Keaton, and how she \u201clived without limits, and everything she touched carried her unmistakable energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also made mention of her on screen work, gushing that she was \u201cmagnetic\u2014lightning and charm, hurricanes and tenderness. She was a wonder.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cActing was her art,\u201d the Dog Day Afternoon alum continued, \u201cbut it was only one of the many ways she expressed her imagination and creativity.\u201d<\/p>\n

He wrote that while \u201cpeople will miss her,\u201d more importantly \u201cthey will remember her,\u201d as she \u201cleft a mark that cannot fade.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was unstoppable, resilient and above all, deeply human,\u201d he shared. \u201cI will always remember her. She could fly\u2014and in my heart, she always will.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the years after their relationship ended, Keaton fondly looked back at their time together, which began after shooting completed on The Godfather Part II, in which Pacino reprised his role as Michael Corleone as did she as his wife Kay Adams. (The pair went on to costar in all three of the Francis Ford Coppola movies.) <\/p>\n

\u201cI was mad for him,\u201d Keaton confessed to People<\/a> in 2017. \u201cCharming, hilarious, a nonstop talker. There was an aspect of him that was like a lost orphan, like this kind of crazy idiot savant. And oh, gorgeous!\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the Annie Hall actress shared that their romance ran its course after she gave Pacino an ultimatum when he wouldn\u2019t commit to marriage. <\/p>\n

\u201cI worked hard on that one,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI went about it in not a perfect way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diane’s Book Club costars each shared individual tributes for the late actress. <\/p>\n

The Elf actress emphasized that her late friend was “magic.”<\/p>\n

“There was no one, nor will there ever be, anyone like her,” she wrote in a statement. “I loved her and felt blessed to be her friend. My love to her family. What a wonder she was!!!” <\/p>\n

“It\u2019s hard to believe…or accept\u2026that Diane has passed,” Jane wrote in her own Instagram post<\/a>. “She was always a spark of life and light, constantly giggling at her own foibles, being limitlessly creative… in her acting, her wardrobe, her books, her friends, her homes, her library, her worldview. Unique is what she was. And, though she didn\u2019t know it or wouldn\u2019t admit it, man she was a fine actress!”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Candice wrote in her post, “This is a huge loss, both personally and for all of us.”<\/p>\n

The Miss Congeniality actress continued, “Diane was a true artist \u2013 tremendously gifted and uniquely talented in so many disciplines, yet also modest and wonderfully eccentric. I will miss her terribly.”<\/p>\n

The Big Little Lies actress praised Diane as “really important” and reflected on starring in the 1992 TV movie Wildflower, which Diane directed.<\/p>\n

“She was one of my first mentors in this business,” Reese said during<\/a> during an event in October. “I was 15 years old and I was from Nashville, Tennessee, and I didn’t know anybody.”<\/p>\n

She added, “She really took the time to pull me aside and say, ‘Stand up straight, OK? I want you to have good posture. If you’re gonna be an actress you got to work on your posture.'”<\/p>\n

Asking the audience to pay tribute to Diane, she concluded, “So for Diane, watch one of her movies. And wear like a really cool, interesting outfit, black and white. Take a cool picture and just live your dream. Just be your unique, interesting self. I think Diane would be really happy. So rest in peace, Diane.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Matrix star reminisced on working with the Annie Hall actress in the 2003 movie Something’s Gotta Give.<\/p>\n

\u201cTotal pro,\u201d Keanu told E! News Oct. 13. \u201cShe was very nice to me. Generous, generous artist and a very special, unique person.\u201d<\/p>\n

And getting the chance to watch Diane work alongside costar Jack Nicholson in the film\u2014written and directed by Nancy Meyers\u2014was a memorable experience he’ll always cherish.<\/p>\n

“It was cool to be able to see her and Jack Nicholson together,” Keanu continued. “Just with the history they shared and the way the fondness and love they had for each other. It’s really cool.”<\/p>\n

Diane’s Annie Hall costar penned an essay in her honor after news of her passing. <\/p>\n

“Unlike anyone the planet has experienced or is unlikely to ever see again, her face and laugh illuminated any space she entered,” Woody wrote in an essay for The Free Press<\/a>. “She was so charming, so beautiful, so magical, that I questioned my sanity. I thought: ‘Could I be in love so quickly?'”<\/p>\n

Woody called the world a “drearier” place without Diane, adding, “Still, there are her movies. And her great laugh still echoes in my head.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a filmmaker, I\u2019ve lost a connection with an actress that one can only dream of. We all search for that someone who really gets us, right?
