US President Donald Trump has said that there is no strict timeline for the Palestinian group Hamas to disarm under the ongoing Gaza ceasefire agreement, but warned that the group would face consequences if it failed to surrender its weapons.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Trump said he preferred to \u201csee how it all works out\u201d rather than setting a rigid deadline for disarmament.<\/p>\n

He said Hamas had agreed to give up its weapons and cautioned that if the group did not honour the commitment, the US or its allies could intervene.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said they would\u2026 if we have to, we will disarm them,\u201d Trump remarked.<\/p>\n

The US-brokered Gaza ceasefire plan, presented by Trump earlier this month, consists of 20 points and has entered its first phase.<\/p>\n

The agreement provides for the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, as well as the reconstruction of Gaza and the creation of a new governing structure excluding Hamas.<\/p>\n
