The Labour parliamentary group has filed a motion for a parliamentary debate ‘to provide reassurance’ about the effectiveness of generic medicines.<\/p>\n
It follows remarks by Opposition leader Alex Borg a few weeks ago that a PN government would ensure there were no medicine shortages, and medicines were of good quality, not generics.<\/p>\n
The Labour Party said those remarks had raised serious doubts among the people, creating a situation that risked endangering public health.<\/p>\n
This concern, it said, was confirmed by statements issued by the Malta Medicines Authority, the Superintendent of Public Health, the Chamber of Pharmacists and the Medical Association of Malta.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Parliament, as the highest institution in this country, has the responsibility to also clarify the facts and offer reassurance,” the party said.<\/p>\n
It explained that the motion seeks to deliver correct information and clarify the comments that were made, so that these doubts could be resolved.\u00a0<\/p>\n
