While his portrayal of Indravadan Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai remains his most iconic television role, his charm extended to the big screen as well, where he shone in films like Main Hoon Na<\/a> and Masti.<\/p>\n

Among his many memorable performances, his eccentric role as Professor Madhav Rasai in Main Hoon Na\u2014a teacher with a peculiar habit of spitting while talking\u2014became a fan favourite. Interestingly, Shah had initially turned down the part, finding it too distasteful, before being persuaded otherwise by none other than Shah Rukh Khan<\/a> and director Farah Khan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Convincing the Reluctant Actor
In an old interview with Bollywood Bubble, Shah had fondly recalled how Shah Rukh Khan, with his characteristic wit and charm, convinced him to take on the unconventional role. The veteran actor revealed that he had initially aspired to play the college principal\u2014a role that ultimately went to Boman Irani. \u201cI wasn\u2019t keen on playing such a gross character,\u201d he had admitted, explaining how he was hesitant to portray someone who spits while speaking.
However, Shah Rukh, with his sharp persuasive skills, encouraged him to think differently. He reminded Satish that he had played numerous \u201cclean\u201d roles before and that this quirky character was something only he could pull off. Once filming began, Satish Shah threw himself into the role, creating a character so unique that audiences couldn\u2019t forget him. He even nicknamed himself the \u201cspitting cobra\u201d because of the strange on-screen quirk. The actor later revealed the effort behind making those moments look natural\u2014he would take a sip of water and hold it in his mouth, emphasizing certain syllables to create the perfect \u201cspray effect.\u201dBut performing the scene was not easy, especially since it involved repeatedly spitting near or on Shah Rukh Khan\u2019s face during class sequences. What made it even harder was Shah Rukh\u2019s uncontrollable laughter every time it happened. \u201cHe just couldn\u2019t stop laughing,\u201d Shah recalled. \u201cWe had to take multiple retakes because of that.\u201dAt one point, after nearly eight retakes, the actor\u2019s patience wore thin. Frustrated yet amused, he told the crew he wouldn\u2019t do it again. The atmosphere on set, however, remained lighthearted\u2014everyone was in splits, including the director. Released in 2004, Main Hoon Na marked Farah Khan\u2019s directorial debut and became a blockbuster. Produced by Gauri Khan and Ratan Jain under Red Chillies Entertainment and Venus Movies, the action-thriller starred Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Zayed Khan, Amrita Rao, and Suniel Shetty, alongside a talented ensemble cast including Boman Irani, Kirron Kher, and Naseeruddin Shah. The story followed Major Ram Sharma, an army officer who goes undercover as a college student to protect a general\u2019s daughter and reunite with his estranged family.<\/p>\n
