Kate Hudson really, really loves a good slipdress. This weekend, she rocked a silk amber slipdress with draping and ruching on the red carpet. Last month, she donned a butter yellow slipdress that nodded to her iconic dress from 10 Thing I Hate About You. And a month before that, it was a silky rose colored number during a surprise onstage appearance. But Hudson’s latest slipdress might be her boldest looks yet—not because of the dress, but because of what she wore with it.
In a new Instagram carousel, Hudson smiles on a porch with singer Neil Diamond, who provided the inspiration for her new film Song Sung Blue. “Just sitting on the porch with @neildiamond sharing all kinds of stories ✨Sweet Neil, we love you! Thank you for sharing your music with us and for supporting our film @songsungbluefilm 💙❤️🤍,” she captioned the photos.

For their meeting, Hudson wore a slinky, semi-sheer black slipdress that fell all the way to her ankles. She paired the strappy, simple number with bold drop circle earrings, a high ponytail, and a pair of puffy black slip-on shoes. As the true fashion It-girls know, comfort is often the best fashion statement.
She paired the dress with controversial socks and sandals.

Hudson plays Claire Sardina in Song Sung Blue, the wife of Hugh Jackman’s Mike Sardina. The film is inspired by a real-life couple who, in the ’80s, started a Neil Diamond tribute act. Both underwent quite the transformation for the film: Hudson rocks a Goldie Hawn-coded set of ’80s curls, while Jackman dons a bold set of sideburns.
