NEED TO KNOW

Cheryl Hines appeared on The View on Oct. 14, and fielded questions from the panel of hosts about her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and his involvement in President Donald Trump’s cabinet

The actress, 60, now says she was “hoping” the interview would be “more personal” rather than so focused on her husband’s politics

Hines and Kennedy met in 2006 and have been married since 2014

Cheryl Hines was disappointed by her recent appearance on The View.

Hines, 60, stopped by the ABC talk show on Tuesday, Oct. 14, while promoting her new book, Unscripted, and was asked about her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and his relationship with President Donald Trump.

For the Curb Your Enthusiasm star — who fielded questions from The View hosts about her husband’s stance on vaccines and her reaction to him joining the Trump’s administration — the visit was disappointing.

“You know, I was actually hoping that it was going to be more personal on The View,” Hines said on the Hot Mics with Billy Bush podcast. “But it was what it was.”

She claimed the hosts — Sunny Hostin, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin — “just wanted to grill me about Bobby.”

Podcast host Billy Bush then asked if Hines can “tell when someone hasn’t read your book,” to which she said, “Yes.”

“I mean, I don’t think the ladies on The View asked me one question about my book,” she added. “But, you know, that’s okay.”

During her interview on The View, Hines said she’s “not been a political person” in the past and that her husband’s decision to end his campaign for president and endorse Trump was a “very difficult” one.

“At the end of the day, President Trump and Bobby sat down and talked, and yes, they did have a lot of common goals,” she said.

“I was guarded about it,” she added of her husband’s decision, which she called a “leap of faith” given he was a Democrat when she first met him in 2006. “It was complicated, right? Because that is a big change politically.”

The actress also weighed in on a hot topic regarding her husband as she said that Kennedy, 71, and Trump, 79, “both want access to vaccines.”

A source previously told PEOPLE last year that Hines was “very unhappy” about her husband’s decision “to join the Trump wagon,” but she was “making the best of it.”

She’s shown up for Kennedy as he’s stepped into the new role, appearing at his Senate confirmation hearing in January, and said in a recent interview that she feels “very connected” to his “Make America Healthy Again” initiative.
