SATELLITE BEACH — The nuisance crocodile that has been present in the ponds and drainage ditches between Indian Harbour Beach and Satellite Beach has been captured, but not before it killed another resident’s dog.

This particular animal, identified with FWC Tag #40, has previously been relocated outside Brevard County but has repeatedly returned to these beachside areas.

Earlier this week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) was notified that the same crocodile was seen in the drainage ditch at South Patrick Drive and Sea Park Blvd carrying a Golden Retriever in its jaws.

FWC officers and a wildlife trapper responded, located the crocodile, and captured it alive. As crocodiles are federally protected, euthanasia was not permitted.

Instead of being released back into the wild, the animal will now be moved to permanent captivity at an undisclosed location.
