Hey there, Connectors! I hope your week is off to a great start.
I try to be as transparent as I can with you all. So, in lieu of a regular intro, I have a quick housekeeping note: I’ve removed the “how to play Connections” section I’ve had in this column for forever. It was there to help people find the column (and hopefully become a regular reader), but including it means y’all have to scroll a bit more to get to the hints and so on.
I’m not sure yet how nixing that is going to affect my readership. I might have to plug that section back in at some point, but I’ll see how things go.
I’m mainly mentioning this as a heads up so you don’t scroll down the page too quickly. Wouldn’t want to spoil the answers for you too early.
Before we start, I want to mention the great community we have on Discord, where we chat about Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re welcome to hang out with us.

HARD TACO made the greens blindingly obvious, I thought. The yellows were not difficult to spot either.
I thought for a second that there might be a group of “over____” words with LAP, SHOT and WATCH (I can never truly escape Overwatch). But nothing else quite fit.
After thinking about BULL for a moment, though, I figured out the purples. I’m on the fence as to how I feel about having the same word in consecutive games. In any case, BULL wasn’t going to mean “nonsense” again today after it did yesterday.
I don’t believe I’ve heard of BELT as a synonym of “swig” before. But hey, that’s a perfect game for me, and a 193rd win on the trot. Here’s my grid for this one:

P.S. I often look through local concert listings to see if any of my faves or acts that are on my bucket list are coming to town. That’s also one way that I find out about new artists.
Last week, I learned about Ivri. Her debut experimental alt rock album, The Theory of You, came out last month and I like it quite a bit. I can’t stop listening to “Tower of Memories,” which has picked up some buzz.
The track is a bit different from the rest of the album – it’s a shoegazey, Deftones-esque rock song with some electronica and dream pop-style (and perhaps Chino Moreno-influenced?) vocals from Ivri. It’s a lovely fever dream of a song that became the 1,000th addition to my main playlist.
Ivri played a show in Montreal on Sunday. I already had plans that night, unfortunately, and I had two other shows this week anyway (including Deftones, as it happens). But I’ll be sure to see Ivri the next time she’s playing a show here. I love this song a whole lot, and I hope you dig it too:
