Fictional rock band Spinal Tap reunited on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Monday night and managed to work in an unexpected jab at one of President Donald Trump’s most controversial policies.
Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer appeared in character as Marty DiBergi, Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls to promote “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,” the long-awaited sequel to the cult 1984 mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap.”
Talk turned to the spoof group’s backstage rider, which includes 12 packs of Dentyne Ice gum. Host Jimmy Kimmel noted that the band members’ aversion to actual ice was “something unusual to have in common.”
“We don’t like ICE to come backstage and take anybody away from us.”
The line, which garnered a loud cheer from Kimmel’s audience, was a clear reference to anti-immigration raids being conducted by Trump’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
“I mean, these gentlemen are from the UK and they want to be able to go back,” added Reiner, who in the past has slammed Trump as a “narcissistic, misogynistic racist” and “a pathological liar.”
