Update, 1.30pm: One person has died in a crash near Whangamatā on the Coromandel Peninsula.
Police were called to the single-vehicle crash on Waihi-Whangamata Rd State Highway 25 about 11.40am.
The sole occupant died at the scene, police said.
The road is closed with diversions in place while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.
Motorists should avoid the area.
Earlier, 12.45pm: Emergency services are at a serious crash near Whangamatā on the Coromandel Peninsula.
Police were called to the single-vehicle crash on Waihi-Whangamata Rd State Highway 25 about 11.40am.
“Initial reports suggest there have been serious injuries,” a statement from police said.
“Traffic management will be in place. Motorists should avoid the area, if possible.”
