ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ Hints And Answers For Sunday, November 9 (#882)By Erik Kain
Hey there, Connectors! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I’m very happy to be back with you for another Monday-Friday run of this column. Putting this together is one of my favorite things I get to do.
As you may know by now (and if not, welcome!), I love to kick off the Monday editions of column with a fun, upbeat song. I just think it’s nice to start the week on a positive note, and a song that gets us moving around a bit and singing along can definitely help with that.
I’m going with something a little different this week, because it’s not just one song. Thank you, YouTube algorithm, for recommending this 15-minute mix of disco and funk from the ’70s and 80’s. It features music from the likes of Chic, Kool & The Gang, Patrice Rushen, Cheryl Lynn and KC & The Sunshine Band. You can’t argue with that. Such a great way to get things going on a Monday:

Before we start, I want to mention the great community we have on Discord, where we chat about Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re welcome to hang out with us.
Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Monday, November 10 are coming right up. Let’s get rolling!
NYT Connections Hints – How To Play
Connections is a free New York Times daily word game that you can play on the NYT’s website or Games app. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the Connections archive, which includes every previous game.
Connections presents you with a grid of 16 words (sometimes phrases, symbols or numbers). The aim is to arrange them into four groups of four. You don’t know how they hit together or what the category for each group is: that’s what you have to figure out.
There’s only one correct solution and there are often red herrings. You can guess incorrectly three times. A fourth wrong guess, and it’s game over.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to deduce, followed by blue, green and purple. Often, the yellow and green groups have synonyms, the blues have cultural references and the purples have some kind of wordplay involved. But this is not a hard and fast rule. Be ready for curveballs – part of the fun of Connections is in how the NYT shakes things up to keep you on your toes.
As with Wordle and similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends using an emoji-based grid. The game tracks your progress too.
Many players take pride in having long win streaks or getting a reverse rainbow – correctly guessing the purple, blue, green and yellow groups in that order with no mistakes. That adds an extra little challenge.

This is your last chance to look away.
This is your final warning!
Today’s Connections answers are…
🟨 Yellow group — percussion instruments (BELL, DRUM, RATTLE, TRIANGLE)🟩 Green group – satisfy, as debts (CLEAR, PAY, SETTLE, SQUARE)🟦 Blue group — words in a famous quote by Caesar (CAME, CONQUERED, I, SAW)🟪 Purple group — Latin prepositions (AB, PRO, SINE, SUB)
I clocked the blues right away today. It’s a reference to a quote that’s attributed to Julius Caesar, “I came, I saw, I conquered.” I do like the cadence of the original Latin version of the phrase: Veni, vidi, vici.
The yellows were up next. No real problem or doubts about those in my mind.
I thought at first that SQUARE might go with what seemed to be algebraic terms, but I was one away. I then realized that it made sense with other words that mean to resolve a debt.
I submitted the purples first. Having never studied Latin, I wouldn’t have known this without a great deal of thought. I didn’t innately know the origin of these, which are often used in English. So I really got these by default (fun that they tied into the blues though!). I then submitted the greens for win number 254 in a row.

I ran out of time for an Answers Explained column today, sorry! I’d love to be able to put those together on a more consistent basis, but time is a real villain sometimes.
That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Tuesday’s game if you need them.
P.S. Let’s go with another upbeat number to round things out today. This is an early ’90s one-hit wonder from a band called Deep Blue Something. “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” actually reached number one on the U.K. singles chart. I remember hearing it a lot on the radio when I was very young. It’s a fun song:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
