The Duchess has one telling gesture that seemed to show her emotion, with this gesture being the way she dabbed at her eye with a gloved finger.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, body language expert Judi James said: “Sophie seems to be using the traditional ploy for anyone denying tears with the line: ‘It’s just a bit of grit in my eye’ as she dabs with one gloved finger before glancing at the tip, but her features had fallen into a very solemn expression as she watched her husband lay the wreath, implying that this was genuinely a tear that she was dabbing away quickly.”
Sophie was not the only royal who appeared emotional during the event, with Princess Kate also appearing visibly moved at one point.
King Charles also seemed emotional, especially during the two-minute silence in which his eyes appeared to well up.
Judi said: “His eyes looked red-rimmed despite the relatively mild weather, and they appeared to glisten with tears throughout.
“His expression appeared reflective, but his features moved about to suggest suppressed emotions.
“He seemed to be swallowing heavily and his mouth moved a lot as he looked up at the Cenotaph.”
