Applications are now open for the 2026 Allan Gray Makers StartUp Academy. The Allan Gray Makers StartUp Academy 2026 is an 8-month incubation programme. It’s designed to provide entrepreneurship training and comprehensive support to aspiring artisan entrepreneurs aiming to establish new businesses in the bricklaying, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing trades.

Requirements

Age: 18-35

Relevant trade: Bricklaying/Carpentry/Electrical/Plumbing

Unemployed or self-employed (not studying full-time)

Qualified bricklayer, carpenter, electrician or plumber with a trade test

OR, have 3 years work experience in the relevant trade and are ready to take the trade test

OR, N2 Certificate and 3 years work experience in either the bricklaying, carpentry, electrical or plumbing trade

Benefits

Participants will receive a transport allowance of R3000 per month to help cover costs associated with attending the programme.
