HP is currently offering a great deal on a gaming laptop that’s probably more powerful than most gaming desktop computers. Right now you can pick up an Omen Max 16 RTX 5080 gaming laptop for just $2,399.99 after a massive $900 off instant discount. The RTX 5080 is currently the second most powerful mobile GPU available trailing just behind the far pricier RTX 5090 and even surpassing the previous generation’s top performer, the RTX 4090.

The Omen Max is essentially a “premium” Omen 16 with better materials – like an aluminum-magnesium alloy chassis and lid – and a beefier cooling system to accommodate current generation hardware. This particular configuration features a 16″ 2560×1600 display, Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, GeForce RTX 5080 graphics, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. Both the memory and the SSD can be user-upgraded (they’re not soldered on).

The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX is a top performing CPU

The HP Omen Max is equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX Arrow Lake-HX processor, which boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz with a whopping 24 cores and 40MB total L2 cache. According to Passmark, this is second most powerful Intel mobile CPU available right now and goes head to head with AMD’s Ryzen 9 9955HX.

The GeForce RTX 5080 mobile GPU is better than the RTX 4090 mobile

The Omen Max 16 offers a robust cooling design that allows it to accomodate a more powerful GPU like the RTX 5080 without throttling it. That’s important if you want to be able to play games comfortably on the display’s enhanced 2560×1600 resolution. The RTX 5080 mobile GPU is roughly 15%-20% more powerful than the RTX 4080 mobile GPU that it replaces. In fact, it’s slightly more powerful than the RTX 4090, which was the previous generation’s flagship card.
