NEWS that Triple Eight will again exit the Dunlop Super2 Series at the end of this season could have a knock-on effect with regards to the proposed build of the world’s newest Commodore.
Ben Gomersall had been in line to return for a second Super2 season with Triple Eight in 2026, armed with a brand-new ZB Commodore.
But Triple Eight’s decision to funnel its full focus into an expanded three-car full-time main game effort and thus ditch its Super2 program has thrown a spanner in the works.

“I have got to catch up with Jamie (Whincup, Triple Eight boss) in the next week or so to talk about how we round all of that out,” he told V8 Sleuth.
“I’ve been overseas for about a month… the main concern is to make sure Ben is on the grid for next year, which I’m pretty comfortable with, and everything else is just housekeeping.”
Having cut his teeth in Toyota 86s, Gomersall Jr burst out of the blocks with a round podium on Super2 debut at Sydney Motorsport Park in February.
He has drifted towards the back of the 10 as the year has progressed, with Tickford Autosport’s quartet becoming increasingly dominant, but nevertheless has compiled a reasonably promising campaign to date.

The teenager has been linked to Tickford for 2026.
“We’re just working on our plans for next year,” Gomersall Sr said upon returning from the United States yesterday.
“We’ve got a few options, I’ve had a number of calls from most of the teams to be honest, which is great.
“So yeah, he’ll be on the grid, so we’ll finalise that and make an announcement post-Adelaide.”
Tickford will win the 2025 Super2 title, with its four drivers (Rylan Gray, Lochie Dalton, Nash Morris and Reuben Goodall) the only mathematical contenders heading into next weekend’s Adelaide decider.
Gray will next year replace Will Davison in a full-time Dick Johnson Racing Supercars seat, while Dalton and Morris have signed co-drive deals with Erebus Motorsport and PremiAir Racing respectively.
