An official Disney+ Instagram account allegedly teased the arrival of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday through an ominous post.

In a post from DisneyPlusLa, shared by AvengersUpdated on X, the Latin America-based Disney+ social media account shared a still image from the post-credits scene in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Per the movie’s end-credits scene, the post featured Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom with a toddler-aged Franklin Richards. “The world is getting ready for a new event,” the caption teases.

Per AvengersUpdated’s post, the Instagram account sharing the post to its audience marks the continuation of Avengers: Doomsday’s social media marketing campaign. While this isn’t the first time that buzz marketing has hit social media, given that the Russo brothers have already been teasing eager Marvel fans about what to expect from Avengers: Doomsday, which some have interpreted to be some interpretation of the Avengers vs. the X-Men.

Avengers: Doomsday is expected to share its first trailer prior to Avatar: Fire and Ash. With around a year before Avengers: Doomsday takes over movie theaters on a global scale, it’s expected that other companies associated with Marvel Studios will also start promoting the Avengers’ return to the big screen to some degree.

Some Instagram users have noted that despite AvengersUpdated sharing a screenshot, the original Instagram post that teases that “the world is getting ready for a new event” has possibly been deleted.

Not much is completely known about the canon synopsis of Avengers: Doomsday, though Marvel Studios is heavily banking on the arrival of Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So far, it’s been established that old heroes such as some original Avengers or Shang-Chi are set to cross paths with the X-Men and The Fantastic Four. Marvel is no stranger to multiversal madness, and the superhero conglomerate has hinted at more interdimensional threats paired with even more thrilling crossovers since Avengers: Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame served as a turning point for Marvel Studios, and as the company earned more rights to other franchised teams or characters, can use Avengers: Doomsday to explore greater reaches of the lore that Marvel Comics have laid out. There are still some legacy Marvel or Marvel-adjacent stars that insist that they won’t be reprising thier roles in Avengers: Doomsday, such as former Jean Grey actress Famke Janssen.

It’s been rumored that Avengers: Doomsday will also have a fair share of variant trailers, so fans may be greatly mislead by their first look at the next big Marvel movie — but that’s nothing new for Marvel, really.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives on Dec. 18., 2026.
