The BBC has created some very funny comedies over the last couple of decades, but it’s one of the most recent ones that has had viewers blown away. Some have even gone as far as calling it the funniest comedy series available on BBC iPlayer right now.
And critics tend to agree, with the show receiving an elusive 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It premiered on BBC Three on August 15, 2024, and stars Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey. The BBC later commissioned a second series, which premiered on November 21, 2025.
That series is Daddy Issues, a British comedy created by Danielle Ward.
Daddy Issues follows Gemma, a party-loving young woman who discovers she is pregnant, and Malcolm, her recently divorced father.
The pair end up sharing a flat in Stockport, creating an odd-couple comedy filled with awkward moments and sharp one-liners.
Aimee Lou Wood plays Gemma, while David Morrissey stars as Malcolm.
The cast also includes Susan Lynch, Jill Halfpenny, David Fynn, Sharon Rooney, Sarah Hadland, Taj Atwal, Arian Nik, Philip Jackson, Tom Stourton, Susannah Fielding, Lauren O’Rourke, Cyril Nri, Cora Kirk, Perry Fitzpatrick, Claire Keelan, Damien Molony, Sherrie Hewson, Humphrey Ker and David Reed.
The first series was written by Danielle Ward and produced by Lynn Roberts, with Phil Gilbert, Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey serving as executive producers.
It was directed by Damon Beesley and Catherine Morshead. Filming for the first series took place in Stockport and Manchester in December 2023, while the second series began filming in January 2025.
Those who have seen it fell in love straight away. One person said: “It’s by far the funniest comedy on BBC iPlayer at the moment. I couldn’t stop laughing. This masterpiece is well worth a watch.”
Another added: “With two great actors leading the line up in David Morrisey and Aimee-Lou, a fantastic pairing, who brought this comedy to life.
“The straight up one liners, contrasted by a great cast throughout the scenes within the show, really took this show to another level.”
A third wrote: “Absolutely brilliant new drama, had to binge watch the whole series because it was so funny, emotional and at times so true to life.”
Someone else said: “Brilliantly written and performed by all. Even the smallest of parts are well thought through and hard worked on. This had my wife and I laughing and talking about it for days.”
Daddy Issues is available to stream for free on BBC iPlayer.
