It is understood to have been shut for weeks.
Hawke’s Bay Today has contacted the owner for comment.
The company that operates the studio, Bai Mint Traditional Thai Massage & Beauty Care Ltd, was placed into liquidation by order of the High Court after an application by creditor Inland Revenue (IRD).
According to the first liquidator’s report, the company has liabilities of $198,000, most of which is owed to IRD.
The sole director and shareholder of the company is Nutthaporn Thigtham.
There were no assets listed in the first liquidator’s report that could potentially go toward paying creditors.
“A full investigation will be undertaken into the company’s records to identify any further assets that can be realised [or] any shareholders’ current account balances that may be claimed,” the report read.
A sister Bai Mint Thai Massage studio was opened in Rotorua in 2017, but closed a few years ago after the Covid pandemic.
That studio was operated by another company, Bai Mint Ltd, of which Thigtham was also a director. That company has not entered liquidation.
The two Bai Mint Thai Massage studios in Napier and Rotorua boasted strong Tripadvisor ratings of 4.6 (out of 5), based on customer reviews.
According to its 2025 annual report, the IRD referred 650 cases to the court for liquidation in the year to June – a 49% increase from the year prior, the NZ Herald reported.
