Cillian Murphy has commented on rumors he could portray the Harry Potter TV show’s version of Voldemort. Following the mammoth success of the Harry Potter film franchise, J.K. Rowling’s series of books are set to be adapted into an upcoming HBO series. It has been reported that the series will premiere sometime in 2027.

Some details about actors who’ve been chosen to be part of the Harry Potter TV show’s cast have been revealed. However, there hasn’t been any confirmation about who will portray the show’s version of Voldemort after Ralph Fiennes famously played the character in the movies. However, one actor who has been rumored to portray the character has now commented on that idea.

While being interviewed by Josh Horowitz, the host of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Murphy was asked about rumors he could join the Harry Potter TV show’s cast. After being asked about the possibility he could portray Voldemort on TV, Murphy chuckled and denied that there had been any discussions of that. Check out Murphy’s comments below:

No. I mean, genuinely [I haven’t heard anything]. I mean, my kids show me it occasionally, but like, I don’t know anything about that.

Murphy then went on to state that he believes it will be difficult for whoever is cast as Voldemort following Fiennes’ performance of the character. Murphy finished discussing the topic by wishing good luck to whoever is cast as the villain for the Harry Potter TV show.

I mean, also, it’s just really hard to follow anything Ralph Fiennes does. The man is an absolute acting legend. So, good luck to whoever is going to fill those shoes.

What This Means For The Harry Potter TV Show

There are two ways to look at Cillian Murphy debunking the rumors he could portray the Harry Potter TV show’s version of Voldemort.

The first option is to be disappointed that Murphy hasn’t been cast as the villain who is one of the Harry Potter universe’s most powerful wizards. Since Murphy is one of the most talented actors of his generation, it could have been fascinating to see him embody such a notorious villain.

The other way to look at Murphy’s lack of involvement in the Harry Potter series is that it opens up a lot of possibilities. Until the casting of Voldemort is officially announced, observers can still discuss who should embody the character.

As an actor, Murphy has proven to have fantastic instincts, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Murphy’s instincts about the future of the Voldemort character appear to be exactly right. To Murphy’s point, it is hard to imagine how difficult it will be for whoever is hired to embody Voldemort as a part of the Harry Potter TV show.

Ralph Fiennes’s portrayal of Voldemort made the character one of the most intimidating and odd villains in modern movie history. As a result, many people forget that he is only one of several actors who portrayed Voldemort in the movies. With a Voldemort portrayal as compelling as Fiennes to live up to, the actor who will portray the Harry Potter show’s version will be under immense pressure.
