To celebrate the week of art, The Cut and the Armory Show hosted an event that celebrated women of color in art, with guests like artist Kennedy Yanko and gallerist Hannah Traore. “Something that I love about the Armory Show is the energy,” said Traore, who has a booth of artist James Parkins’s work at the event. “I think my favorite part of showing at an art fair is the number of people who get to see the work. There is nothing like seeing the work in person. The texture, the volume, the lusciousness cannot be seen in photos.”
“It’s so important because their voices have not been curated and archived historically,” said Yanko. “It’s a really exciting time where we can shine and we can sing in the capacity that is true to our lens.”
Frédéric Malle sponsored the event (throughout the evening, the brand’s Portrait of a Lady fragrance was placed around the event, and samples were free for all guests to take).
