‘3 Idiots’ sequel in the works

Pinkvilla reports that Hirani has now locked the script for the ‘3 Idiots’ sequel, which picks up 15 years after the events of the original. The sequel will reportedly explore how the characters’ lives have changed since their dramatic reunion in Leh. All four lead actors from Aamir to Kareena Kapoor Khan, R Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi, are expected to reprise their roles.However, at the same time, it remains unclear whether other beloved characters like Omi Vaidya’s Chatur, Boman Irani’s Virus, Mona Singh’s Mona, and Javed Jaffrey’s Ranchhoddas Shamaldas Chanchad will also make a return.

About the ‘3 Idiots’

The 2009 film ended with Kareena’s Pia, Madhavan’s Farhan, and Sharman’s Raju discovering that Aamir Khan’s Rancho is actually Phunshukh Wangdu, an innovator teaching in Ladakh. The film concluded had a rather romantic conclusion between Pia and Rancho, making this sequel rather interesting to see how this story continues.As per the report, the new script is “as funny, as emotional, and as meaningful as 3 Idiots.”

Hirani hints at sequel

Reports have long indicated that director Hirani has been toying with the idea of giving fans the sequel they have longed for, but has always wanted to ensure that it lived up to the legacy of the original. Last year, during an event, the director hinted that he was working on a concept worthy of becoming ‘3 Idiots 2’. At the time, he said that the most important factor in maing the sequel, was that it would “have to get better than the previous films.” He also claimed that he was working on a “unique idea.”

Meanwhile, Hirani is also working with Abhijat Joshi, and Vidhu Vinod Chopra to develop the third instalment of ‘Munna Bhai’.
