28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the second installment in the planned trilogy, is arriving next month. Ahead of its release, Deadline reports that Sony is officially moving forward on 28 Years Later Part 3.

The third movie in the latest trilogy doesn’t have a title yet, but Alex Garland (28 Days Later, 28 Years Later) is returning to pen the script.

Cillian Murphy, who reprises his 28 Days Later role in The Bone Temple, is in talks to return for the final entry in the trilogy. His character, Jim, was last seen at a remote cottage with fellow survivors when 28 Days Later ended.

The first two installments in the trilogy were filmed back-to-back, with Danny Boyle helming the first film and Nia DaCosta (Candyman, Hedda) taking the reins for its follow-up. Boyle, the franchise originator, has previously expressed hopes to helm the final installment.

In The Bone Temple, Dr. Kelson finds himself in a shocking new relationship — with consequences that could change the world as they know it — and Spike’s (Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal becomes a nightmare he can’t escape.

The infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival — the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.

Written by Garland, the fourth installment in the post-apocalyptic horror franchise infects theaters on January 16, 2026, via Sony.
