The 1995 film “Waiting to Exhale” is celebrating its milestone 30th anniversary with a big performance in New York, put on by Disney Concerts.
The film, which follows Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, Lela Rochon and the late Whitney Houston as four friends navigating life, love and friendship, is celebrated for its memorable soundtrack.
Now, that soundtrack is coming to life in “Waiting to Exhale in Concert Live to Film,” with stars like Andra Day, Tamar Braxton and Deborah Cox performing songs live as attendees watch the film.
“I’m going to be singing ‘Why Does It Hurt So Bad,'” Cox tells On The Red Carpet. “It’s gonna be a really special evening to sit back, watch the film, then experience, you know, a few of the songs.” They aren’t performing all of the tracks, but Cox explains, “I’m really honored to be a part of it.”
The event was put together by music producer Adam Blackstone.
“Our culture needs this. Needs to be reminded of how incredible his (Babyface) songwriting is. Needs to be reminded how incredible this movie was.
“Waiting to Exhale” in concert takes place December 14 at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York. The film is streaming on Hulu.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu and this ABC station.
