iOS 27 concept

Leaked code from an unreleased build of iOS 26 reportedly contains references to several new features in the works for iOS 26.4 and iOS 27 next year. Here’s what the code reveals.

What to expect from iOS 26.4, iOS 27, and iOS 28

This week, Filipe Espósito at Macworld has been reporting on leaks stemming from an unreleased internal build of iOS 26. The code uncovered a variety of AirTag 2 features, and also three upgrades coming to Apple’s new Studio Display.

Today, Espósito has published a new report focused on features in the works for iOS 26.4, iOS 27, and beyond.

Here are features he found referenced for iOS 26.4:

Siri’s long-awaited AI upgrades

Credit cards in third-party apps can be saved to iCloud Keychain

Folders are coming to Freeform

“Sports Tier” feature flag for the Apple TV app

Extra security measures to check device integrity before logging into Apple Account/iCloud

For iOS 27 and iOS 28, the report mentions the following:

There are new feature flags tied to improved collections in the Photos app with iOS 27. The update will also introduce a new pairing system for AirPods. It’s unclear how this system will work, given that the current method is already quite simple, but presumably it involves under-the-hood improvements to make pairing even faster and more reliable.

For iOS 28, the company plans to add new metrics to sleep tracking with Apple Watch, including time in bed. There’s also a flag that indicates the Health app is coming to the Mac with macOS 28.

Several other features are mentioned that aren’t explicitly tied to a specific iOS release, but will likely arrive in one of the updates mentioned above.

For example, there’s improved Find My support for AirPods with a “Precise Outdoor Location” feature that might be exclusive to AirPods Pro 3. And a redesigned Health app with new categories layout and simplified metric logging.

It’s unknown how recent the code Macworld has seen is, and Apple changes feature release plans all the time, so everything above should be considered “tentative” timing.

Which upcoming features in iOS 26.4, iOS 27, and beyond stand out most to you? Let us know in the comments.
