Four years after the series debut of Hawkeye, Marvel Studios has yet to reveal its official plans for what’s next for Jeremy Renner‘s Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld‘s Kate Bishop in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, a brand new MCU rumor has seemingly revealed their characters’ potential roles in the current phase of the franchise.
What’s the potential MCU future for Hawkeye stars?
According to The Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez, Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop will reportedly be working with Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel as the leaders of the “Young Avengers initiative.” He also teased that fans might finally see them soon, after they briefly appeared onscreen together at the end of 2023’s The Marvels. This is actually in line with the circulating reports about the rumored development of a Young Avengers series called Champions.
As for Renner’s Clint Barton, the insider seemingly hinted that the Avengers vet’s return in future MCU projects might not be part of Marvel Studios’ current plans, especially when the character already got the peaceful family life ending he wanted at the end of Hawkeye.
“Kate Bishop is spearheading the Young Avengers initiative with Kamala. So expect to see them soon,” Perez teased. “As for Clint, honestly, he can stay retired. His ending is fine as is. Poor guy has been trying to live a quiet life for years.”
This update comes after Renner recently confirmed that he won’t be involved in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. The first season of Hawkeye was led by head writer Jonathan Igla, with Amber Finlayson & Katie Ellwood, aka Bert and Bertie, and Rhys Thomas serving as directors. It currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
