Kit Harington’s future in the MCU as Dane Whitman/Black Knight has received an exciting update.
Harington starred as Dane Whitman in 2021’s Eternals, which was directed by Chloé Zhao. In Marvel Comics, Dane — who was created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema, first appearing in 1967’s The Avengers #47 — is the third character to use the codename Black Knight. The post-credit scene of Eternals sees Dane obtain the Ebony Blade, suggesting he’ll soon become the Black Knight; however, the character has not appeared in the MCU since then.
What is the update on Kit Harington’s MCU future?
According to scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus, while Dane has been absent from the MCU for some time, Marvel still has plans for the character.
When asked if Harington will be involved in Marvel’s Blade and/or Midnight Sons, Perez said, “Yes to both. They still want Kit Harrington in the MCU.”
This should just be treated as a rumor at this time, as Marvel Studios has not formally announced Harington’s casting in any forthcoming MCU project.
It is known that a Blade movie is in development, though it’s anybody’s guess as to when it will arrive. The project was first announced in 2019, at which time it was also revealed that Mahershala Ali will be playing the titular character. Since then, the film has suffered from numerous delays. Given that it doesn’t have a director or release date at this time, it’s unclear if Blade will ever get off the ground.
As for the other title, Marvel hasn’t officially announced a Midnight Sons project as of yet, though there have been plenty of rumors and reports suggesting that one may be in the works. These rumors escalated after Sacha Baron Cohen debuted as Mephisto in the 2025 IronHeart series, with some reports suggesting that an adaptation of the 2018 Damnation miniseries could be happening.
