Police have released images of vehicles believed to be involved in a targeted home invasion which led to a death on the Kapiti Coast last month.

On November 19, police were called to Kākāriki Grove in Waikanae to reports of an altercation.

Michael Tofts, aged 45, was found critically injured and died at the scene despite medical attention.

A homicide investigation was then launched, and six people have been arrested in the time since.

Today, police said it would like to hear from anyone who saw or has dashcam footage of the vehicles pictured between 1pm and 7pm on Wednesday, November 19.

The vehicles pictured are a silver 2013 BMW M5, a white 2005 Suzuki Swift, a white 2013 Hilux ute, and a grey 2008 Audi A3 station wagon.

Police said the occupants of the vehicles are believed to have been involved either directly or indirectly in the home invasion, and the lead up to it.

“We also believe that after the alleged murder, the white Suzuki Swift travelled over Akatarawa Road towards Upper Hutt and the silver BMW travelled towards Paraparaumu and may have disposed of items,” said Detective Inspector Jamie Woods.

All of the vehicles are believed to have been in and around Paraparaumu and Waikanae around the time of the homicide. Police believe the vehicles travelled to Kapiti from different locations in the Wellington Region, including Hutt Valley.

Police said five of the six arrested are male gang associates between the ages of 23 and 43, who have been charged with murder. Several attackers were injured in the incident. There was a firearm involved.

The sixth person, a 26-year-old man, was arrested and charged with being an accessory. All of those arrested will appear in the Wellington High Court on January 23, 2026.

Police said anyone with information or sightings of the vehicles can contact police by phoning 105, online, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
