I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve listened to the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack. The film, from South Korea, came out in June and I loved it, even though it was a tiny bit scary. My dad says it’s the most popular movie ever on Netflix, with more than 236 million views — it has three Golden Globe nominations and won best animated feature at the New York Film Critics’ Circle.

Everyone at school is watching it on repeat. Here is a guide to what it’s about, so you can show off — and persuade adults to watch. They might even enjoy it.

What is the story of KPop Demon Hunters?

There is a girl band named Huntrix who also fight demons. Some demons are big, and all demons are different colours, but the colours are always dark. One demon has an idea to form a demon boy band, Saja Boys, to take over Huntrix. Oh no. They have patterns on their skin, which represent certain things about them.

Who are the best characters?

The three girls in Huntrix — my favourite is Rumi, who has demon patterns because her dad is a demon, but nobody knows that yet. Rumi is kind, brave and anxious about the patterns. She thinks that they will grow.

Which songs do I need to know?

The best song is Golden — it is when we find out that Rumi has demon patterns. It is catchy and upbeat and enjoyable. My second favourite song is Takedown — it is when Huntrix feel angry. The third best is What It Sounds Like — this is very sad at first, but then it gets more upbeat and rock’n’roll. This is the one my dad likes. The fourth best is Your Idol — it is very dark, but still very cool. It is when Saja Boys tell everyone that they are demons but the people are too busy being happy to realise. The fifth best is How It’s Done — this is the first song in the movie and is cool because it shows that Huntrix love food. Noodles are their favourite.

What is the best scene?

How It’s Done, when the demons jump out of the plane and wave goodbye to Huntrix, but Huntrix quickly eat their noodles and then jump out of the plane too. One of the Huntrix girls called Zoey makes one of the demons look weird because she puts make-up on it. And when Huntrix land at their show, the demons fall into the crowd and the demon with the make-up explodes into glittery dust and goes back to demon world. Yay, right?

What lessons can we learn from KPop Demon Hunters?

We should never keep a secret — like Rumi does by hiding her demon patterns — because your family and your friends will forgive you anything. Also, we can all be a bit sad and have little demons running around inside us, but you can destroy that little demon by telling someone your secret when you feel like you want to.
