John Oliver is known for being one of the smuggest characters on TV, and a source tells the National Enquirer that he wouldn’t be able to get anywhere without his charming wife Kate Norley — who’s very much the boss behind closed doors and rules the roost with an iron fist.
“John is one of those guys who has a mildly obnoxious personality on his own, but you put up with it because you like his wife so much,” the source says. “Kate tamps down the unlikable parts of John considerably, and he has turned that into a professional edge.”
The source adds that without Norley, 47, the Last Week Tonight host, 48, would “be like a chicken with its head cut off.”

“The fact that this accomplished woman is spending her life with a professional goof like John is a huge endorsement that gets people to trust and believe in John way quicker than they would if he was on his own,” the source explains.
“She’s not the architect of his success in comedy,” the source continues, “but she’s the architect of everything in his personal life that makes him a success in comedy: a calm, stable home life, deep access to normal people outside of comedy and showbiz, and a palpable sex appeal that is keeping John motivated year in and year out and not letting him get distracted by anything in his day job.”

The former US Army medic and Oliver first met in 2008 when he was covering the Republican National Convention for The Daily Show, and it didn’t take long for the two to hit it off.
They officially tied the knot in 2011, and over the course of their marriage the couple has welcomed two sons, now 10 and 7.
“John would be absolutely screwed without her,” the source concludes, “but she’s turned him into the undisputed top dog in late night television.”
