Learning to sail opens the door to a lifetime of adventure on the water, and Yachting New Zealand’s programmes make that journey accessible for individuals, families, and schools alike.

The “Learn to Sail” pathway offers a complete range of courses — from dinghies to keelboats — delivered through accredited clubs and sailing schools nationwide, with each level taught by qualified instructors and recognised both nationally and internationally. Complementing this, Yachting New Zealand’s RŪNĀ initiative brings sailing and marine learning into the classroom, offering three engaging modules — Kōrinorino (local history and navigation), Kōkōkaha (wind science and design), and Moanamana (marine ecosystem restoration). Together, these programmes provide inspiring and practical ways to build confidence, develop skills on the water, and connect learners of all ages with New Zealand’s rich maritime environment.
