The couple was said to have been found dead in their Los Angeles home by their horrified daughter Romy.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County medical examiner confirmed they had died from “multiple sharp force injuries” and deemed their deaths homicides.
Now, the couple’s middle child, Nick Reiner, is behind bars after he was hit with murder charges, which, in California, could result in the death penalty.
After days of grim news about the horrific crime, Ryan broke her silence to share some of the heartwarming memories she had with the director.

Everything we know about Rob Reiner’s wife, Michele
“Oh, how we will miss this man,” she wrote in a caption along with a picture of the two smiling on a film set.
Ryan went on to thank the couple, who not only helped bring movies to life, with Rob being a director and Michele a producer, but also dedicated their lives to political activism.
“Thank you, Rob and Michelle, for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter,” she wrote.
“Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.
“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised…
“I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”
Ryan worked with both Michele and Rob on the set of the 1989 rom-com When Harry Met Sally, which follows the relationship between two friends.
It was during that movie that Rob met Michele Singer, which prompted him to change the ending of the film written by legendary romance writer Nora Ephron.
“Originally, Harry and Sally didn’t get together. But then I met Michele and I thought: OK, I see how this works,” the director told The Guardian in 2018.
Before filming, Reiner had gotten divorced and adopted a child, Tracy, from his first marriage.
The director said that when they first began shooting, he didn’t know if he’d find love again.
“I’d been single for 10 years, and I couldn’t figure out how I was ever going to be with anybody. That gave birth to ‘When Harry Met Sally,’” he said.
“I hadn’t met anybody, so [the ending] was going to be the two of them seeing each other after years, talking, and then walking away from each other.”

‘PERFECT PARTNER’
Ryan’s statement comes just one day after her co-star, Billy Crystal, shared a joint statement to the Associated Press with several of Reiner’s other close friends.
“Going to the movies in a dark theater filled with strangers having a common experience, laughing, crying, screaming in fear, or watching an intense drama unfold is still an unforgettable thrill. Tell us a story audiences demand of us,” the statement began.
“Absorbing all he had learned from his father Carl and his mentor Norman Lear, Rob Reiner not only was a great comic actor, he became a master story teller. There is no other director who has his range.
“From comedy to drama to ‘mockumentary’ to documentary he was always at the top of his game. He charmed audiences. They trusted him. They lined up to see his films.”
Reiner’s friends went on to remember the director’s comedic touch, love of music, and love for everyone involved in making movies.
“His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”
