Meet… Digger! Whoa! A surprise first look via Warner Bros today – they finally revealed the official title and a few very quick glimpses of footage for the new Tom Cruise / Iñárritu movie out next October in the fall. This highly anticipated, very expensive new project is officially titled Digger – because Tom Cruise stars as a man named Digger Rockwell. Who is he? Well, we’re still not sure. They’re still keeping the plot details a secret. The only other synopsis adds: The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything. Is he a superhero of some kind? Especially with this footage of him with a shovel it reminds me of the Shoveler from Mystery Men with a bit of the same vibes as Will Smith in Hancock. The full ensemble cast in Digger features: Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, Michael Stuhlbarg, John Goodman. With cinematography by maestro Emmanuel Lubezki reuniting with Innaritu again after Birdman & The Revenant. Can’t wait to see more! Enjoy this first look…

Digger, also initially rumored to be known as Judy, is directed by acclaimed, Oscar-winning Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu, director of Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel, Biutiful, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), The Revenant, and Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths previously. The screenplay is written by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, and Alexander Dinelaris & Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman. Produced by Tom Cruise and Alejandro G. Iñárritu. This filmed for 6 months in the UK throughout late 2024 and into 2025. The film was shot on 35mm film using VistaVision – with Emmanuel Lubezki as DOP.
