Oscar Piastri believes Lewis Hamilton has a stronger aura than Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. The Australian made the claim after being asked to create his ‘ultimate F1 drive’.
Piastri led the Drivers’ Championship standings for much of the 2025 season but relinquished his lead to McLaren team-mate Norris towards the end of the campaign. Norris went on to clinch the silverware by two points after being pushed all the way by Verstappen, who appeared to be out of the title race in the summer, and Piastri ended the season in third. Hamilton, meanwhile, could only muster a sixth-place finish during his maiden year with Ferrari.
“Today we have got the ultimate F1 drive,” Piastri explained as he took part in a feature with McLaren on X (formerly Twitter).
“So I’m going to get asked some questions and I’m going to pick who or what I think will make the best F1 drive.”
After choosing the McLaren MP4/4 as his favoured car, Piastri revealed that he would opt for his own racecraft and drive at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. He then admitted that he would take the defensive work of Nigel Mansell.
And after being asked whose aura he would select, the 24-year-old said: “I’m going to make another exception here. I feel like Lewis’ aura kind of speaks for itself. So I’ll go with Lewis.”
Piastri then opted for Michael Schumacher for his overtaking ability and Ayrton Senna for his wet-weather driving credentials. And the Aussie selected a Sebastian Vettel helmet.
Piastri finished the 2025 F1 season 13 points adrift of champion Norris after finishing second to Verstappen at the season-defining Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
And following the race in Abu Dhabi, Piastri explained: “I knew that going into today I needed the stars to align to win the championship.
“Ultimately, I tried my best and put myself in the best position I could to try and win the race and give myself the best opportunity, but it wasn’t to be. I think we can be very proud of the season we’ve had.
“On a personal level, it’s obviously not quite the ending that I wished for but I think when you look at the season as a whole, I’m very proud of the work that I’ve been able to put in and my team have been able to put in to make so much progress from last year. I’m looking forward to plenty more fights in the future.”
