The UK is experiencing tightening supplies of epidural infusions after a key supplier’s contract expired and demand increased for the anesthetic commonly used by women giving birth.
While alternative epidural products are being made available and patients aren’t currently doing without, health care workers have been warned to be aware of changes to the concentration and bag size of the infusion. Epidurals are given into a patient’s back to prevent pain during childbirth and some surgeries.
