Your IMDB profile states that you worked in Love Aaj Kal (2009) as ‘India Extra’. Is that true and what role did you play in the Saif Ali Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer?
I have no qualms in saying that I started my journey as an extra. At that time, I was in college and I had started modelling. I wasn’t sure then if I wanted to get into films. An agent, who helped me get modelling projects, told me that Imtiaz Ali was coming to Delhi. He wanted to meet a few people and asked me to go for it. Thanks to this film, I realized I could take up acting as a profession.

What role did you play in Love Aaj Kal?
I played Giselli Monteiro’s sister in the film.

How was it working with Saif Ali Khan and Imtiaz Ali?
I remember Saif Ali Khan was always with a book! In between takes, he would sit in a corner and keep reading. I was like, ‘Wow, actors aise bhi hote hai?’!

As for Imtiaz Ali sir, he’s a fantastic director. I was not an important element in the film. It was a very small role. Yet, he would talk to me and make me feel comfortable. At that time, I was enrolled in English Literature. He had also studied it in Hindu College. He asked me things like, ‘Shakespeare ka kaunsa play padha rahe hai?’. This gesture from him put me at ease and that was an amazing quality about him.

You also played Ranbir Kapoor’s sister in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (2023). How was it working on that film and with director Luv Ranjan and also Boney Kapoor, who acted in the film, and who was the producer of your film, Mili (2022)?
After Miss India, I continued to do modelling. I also worked in a film, Karle Pyar Karle (2014), which didn’t do very well. So, I resumed modelling. It helped me pay my bills and I enjoyed it as well. The world of fashion is quite enchanting and addictive.

It was Luv Ranjan who got me back to acting. He saw me in the role of Micky’s (Ranbir Kapoor) sister. He gave me a role that turned out to be completely life-changing. It’s only after Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar that I got CAT (2022). I bagged Mili because I met Boney Kapoor sir, on the sets of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. So, it set the ball rolling and now, I am completely into acting.

How was it working with Ranbir Kapoor?
Ranbir is a very chill guy. I remember we were doing a scene with Boney sir. He isn’t an actor and hence, he took multiple retakes to get his dialogues right. Ranbir would hang out with unit members and place a bet. He would ask them, ‘Tujhe kya lagta hai? Kitne takes mein ho jaayega? 35 takes mein ho jaayega? Bet laga le. Main kehta hoon 32 mein hoga’! Dimple Kapadia ma’am, meanwhile, would tell him, ’40 takes tak jaayega’. So, he was creating this chill vibe on the sets, which was great. At the same time, he was quite serious when acting.

Tell us about your forthcoming project, Ikatthe.
It’s a project close to my heart. It talks about a Sikh family in Delhi. It consists of six episodes; it is written by Gursimran Khamba and is inspired by his real-life experiences. Being a Sardar is almost looked in a very comic way. There are a lot of trials and tribulations, problems, internal conflicts that every community go through, including the Sikhs. The show touches upon these aspects, in a light-hearted manner.

Your co-star is Barun Sobti, an actor who is unanimously loved…
Barun is a fantastic actor. One might not realize on the sets that he’s actually acting. But when you see his take on the monitor is when you realize that he has added that little blink of an eye or shift in the expression, which changes the effect of the scene completely. He’s not overly animated. He acts like a very normal person, like how you and me would be talking in real life. Grasping this is a very tough thing for an actor to do. Watching him work was a learning experience for me.

I had worked with him previously on another show, Raat Jawan Hai. There, I played his wife as well. Even here, we play a couple.
