So, maybe this is aimed more at runners, but if you’re tracking rides with an Apple Watch and don’t mind glancing at it to see when a Segment starts, here you go.
There’s more to the Strava Apple Watch App update, though. The refreshed design makes it easier to start an activity and view stats while exercising. Pace, distance, time, and heart rate are all clearly visible on screen.
As for Live Segments, as you approach a segment, a banner with the segment name and a circle indicator appear on the watch face. The circle updates in real time to reflect progress, and show whether you’re ahead or behind your personal record. At the end of the segment, your results are displayed before the app returns to its main screen.
All users real-time updates when entering a Live Segment, plus additional haptic cues for starred Segments. Paid subscribers unlock additional features, including:
Live performance tracking: See how your current pace compares to your personal record in real-time.
Progress updates: A countdown shows exactly how much distance remains in the segment.
Instant results: Immediately see how your completed segment time stacks up against your personal best.
“Apple Watch has become an increasingly popular wearable for athletes on Strava,” said Matt Salazar, Chief Product Officer, Strava. “This investment in Apple Watch is more than just tracking a workout – it’s about delivering the real-time, game-like features athletes love to motivate them in the moment.
Strava says 2024 uploads from Apple Watch were saw a nearly 20% year-over-year increase. And now that the newest watches have better battery life than ever, you can go for more Segments than ever.
