“Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 delivers a compelling episode that delves into Annabeth’s past. It balances a character-driven story with great action.”

Good news, it’s Wednesday, so this means it’s time for a new episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians! However, the bad news is that we are already halfway through season 2. But rest assured, the series has already been renewed for a third season.

FLASHBACKS

Since the quest is about saving Camp Half-Blood and finding Grover, that means we don’t get to see him a lot for now. With the first half of season 2, Grover is clearly a secondary character. Nevertheless, the series still finds a way to include him. This episode features flashbacks about Annabeth’s past, which obviously includes our favourite satyr along with Luke and Thalia. These scenes really delve into Annabeth’s story, giving us a better understanding of the character. The flashbacks are used interestingly, as Annabeth reminisces about her past. Thus, reminiscing affects her in the present. It informs the decisions she takes.

THE QUEST

Moreover, this episode brings together the two storylines from last week – Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson with Clarisse. That’s another team dynamic that forms here. Everything is in movement, which makes it all the more compelling. And since we are already halfway through the season, this episode finally brings the character to the sea of monsters. Yes, it took four episodes to reach the beginning of the sea of monsters, but that’s a good thing. This is proof that the series isn’t rushing anything. It takes time to develop its characters. With four episodes, the overall story moved forward a lot.

The sea of monsters is named for a reason, and the heroes get to face the first monster. It’s a big, intense sequence with a lot of great CG. Undoubtedly, this is an entertaining episode. However, it ends on a cliffhanger, and the wait for next week will be unbearable. I wish more series were doing this. That’s the advantage of releasing episodes weekly: the series can play with its audience and keep them in demand.

VERDICT

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 delivers a compelling episode that delves into Annabeth’s past. It balances a character-driven story with great action. The episode ends with a cliffhanger that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The fourth episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 releases today on Disney+.
