Rohde & Schwarz has established a permanent presence in New Zealand with the opening of a sales office in central Auckland, expanding its long-standing relationship with local partner Nichecom.
The move marks the first time the German test and measurement specialist has operated a dedicated branch in the country. The office opened in mid-November and follows more than three decades of collaboration with Wellington-based Nichecom.
Nichecom has represented Rohde & Schwarz in New Zealand since 1987. The firm runs an ISO-registered laboratory and has focused on sales, service, calibration and systems integration for a range of test and measurement brands.
Rohde & Schwarz said Nichecom would remain a key partner during and after the transition period that began in September. The companies plan a blended model that combines the new in-country sales presence with existing local service and support functions.
Gareth Evans, Managing Director Rohde & Schwarz Australia, described the Auckland branch as the first step in a broader regional investment plan.
“Having a permanent Rohde & Schwarz presence on the ground in New Zealand will only further enhance our ability to fully cater to our local customers’ needs and I look forward to building this presence and support in the years to come,” said Gareth Evans, Managing Director Rohde & Schwarz Australia.
The new office operates under Rohde & Schwarz Australia, which has managed the group’s activities in Australia and New Zealand for more than 40 years. The subsidiary supplies test and measurement equipment and related expertise across wireless communications, RF testing, broadcast and media, and aerospace and defence.
Rohde & Schwarz Australia has also delivered integrated communications systems to the Australian Defence Force. The company sees New Zealand as a logical extension of that regional footprint.
Leadership appointment
As part of the expansion, the company has appointed a dedicated Technical Sales Manager in New Zealand. Filip Zganec is based in Auckland and will lead delivery of Rohde & Schwarz solutions across the local market.
Zganec has a background in RF and low-frequency test systems. The company said he brings experience in working with customers on technical requirements and in designing tailored test set-ups.
He will act as the central sales contact for New Zealand customers and will coordinate with existing Nichecom contacts. The structure aims to provide continuity for existing users of Rohde & Schwarz equipment while shifting commercial activity into the new branch.
The Auckland office sits on Quay Street in the city’s waterfront commercial district. It gives Rohde & Schwarz a base for direct engagement with local customers in sectors such as telecommunications, broadcasting, electronics manufacturing and defence.
Long-term presence
Rohde & Schwarz has operated for more than 90 years and focuses on three main business divisions: Test & Measurement, Technology Systems and Networks & Cybersecurity. The group is privately owned and headquartered in Munich.
The company reported net revenue of EUR 3.16 billion in its 2024/2025 fiscal year and employed more than 15,000 people worldwide at the end of June. Its customers include industrial firms, regulators and government agencies that require test and measurement equipment, secure communications and cyber security products.
Rohde & Schwarz Australia acts as the regional arm of the group. The subsidiary manages distribution, technical support and project delivery across both Australia and New Zealand, and will now do so with a direct office in each country.
The opening of the Auckland branch forms part of a longer-term growth plan for the New Zealand market. Evans said the company intends to build up its local presence over time through additional investment and expanded support.
