Luciane Buchanan – EXITED THE SHOW AFTER SEASON 2
Luciane Buchanan starred in the first two seasons as Rose Larkin, but she won’t be back for season three. The news was confirmed on September 12, 2025.
“I won’t be returning to Season 3 of The Night Agent,” Luciane told Deadline.
She continued, “As much as that show has been so amazing, especially for my career — being a lead on a U.S. show from little New Zealand was such a whirlwind — the writers decided that they wanted to follow Peter and his journey based on what happened at the end of Season 2. And so, we don’t get to see what happens to Rose, but I think it’s a really exciting time for the show, and who knows, it’s not a goodbye forever.”
Luciane also opened up about hearing the news from showrunner Shawn Ryan and executive producer Marney Hochman.
“They called me not so long after Season 2, and they were like, we’ve been trying to find a way to bring her in, but we want to do her character justice and not make her a sub-character. I totally respected that decision and agreed. I was like, if it makes sense to a story, I’ll do that. If it doesn’t, let’s not force that,” she said.
Luciane added that she’s open to returning one day. She said, “If there is an opportunity that makes sense to the story for her to come back, I’m sure they’ll explore that, because they really loved the dynamics of Peter and Rose, and I know a lot of audiences loved that dynamic. So I’m sure Shawn Ryan and his team will find a little way; maybe we’ll make a little cameo along the way.”
Jay Karnes – EXITED THE SHOW AFTER SEASON 2
Jay Karnes plays Professor Cole and it was presumed that he died in the season two finale, but the death wasn’t confirmed.
Series creator Shawn Ryan confirmed the death to TVLine, saying, “The professor was beaten pretty savagely by one of the bad guys, and killed — but his death allowed his wife and Rose to escape. It was a noble sacrifice.”
Marwan Kenzari – FATE UNKNOWN, BUT MIGHT RETURN
Marwan Kenzari joined the show in season two as Sami and he might be back for season three.
“We’re still writing Season 3, so I don’t want to say, but Marwan [Kenzari], when I talked to him, I talked to him about the fluidity of this show and the ability for people to come in and come out, and that this universe brings people back. What I will say is that he lived up to everything that I asked him about when we discussed the role and nothing would make me happier than to see more of him on the way,” series creator Shawn Ryan told Deadline.
