The Quadrantid meteor shower will also take place tonight

Did you see the first supermoon of the year this morning?

If not, you’ll get another chance tonight. 

Astronomer Howard Parkin says Island residents will be in for a treat and there’ll also be the Quadrantid meteor shower. 

The display, according to Mr Parkin, can produce up to 100 meteors an hour and will be seen from the northern horizon around midnight:

 

Howard Parkin will deliver a talk on the moon at Taste of Italy in St Johns on Friday (9 January) from 7pm.
