The most important evening in television, the Emmys, will be held this Sunday at the Peacock Theatre, Los Angeles, where the most successful series of the year will compete for the prestigious awards.

Among the main projects expected to shine are Adolescence, The White Lotus, Severance and The Penguin, while other productions are also in the running such as The Studio, Andor, Hacks, Slow Horses, The Bear, Nobody Wants This and The Last of Us.

A possible historical record

Owen Cooper, the 15-year-old British actor in the Netflix series Adolescence, in which he plays a teenager accused of murdering his classmate, could become the youngest male actor in history to win an Emmy. Until now, the record belongs to Roxana Zal, who won in 1984 at the age of 14, writes with the BBC.

Who is leading the ceremony?

This year’s Emmys host is American comedian Nate Bargatze, who last year sold more tickets to shows than any other stand-up comedian in the US. Known for his family-friendly humor and observational style of everyday life, Bargatze said it was “a great honor” to host the ceremony.

He also set an interesting rule: he will donate $100 to charity, but the amount will be reduced every time a thank-you speech exceeds the allowed time. “Is it worth thanking your second manager by taking food from a child? I don’t know, but we’ll see what Hollywood thinks,” he said with humor.

The awards are divided into three main categories: comedy, drama and limited series.

Comedy: The Bear and hacks seek to reclaim the title, while facing Abbott Elementary, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, What We Do in the Shadows, Shrinking and The Studio. The nominees include Cate Blanchett, Jake Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell, Ayo Edebiri, Jean Smart, Kathy Bates, Jeremy Allen White, Bella Ramsey, Gary Oldman, Pedro Pascal, Michelle Williams and Stephen Graham. Supporting actors include Aimee Lou Wood, Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, Catherine O’Hara, Sam Rockwell, Colman Domingo, Harrison Ford, Javier Bardem and Erin Doherty.

Hot competition for the “talk show” category

The variety talk series category has also aroused great interest this year, especially after CBS’s unexpected decision to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, despite its popularity.

Colbert’s colleagues, including his rivals in the race, have launched a public campaign in his support. Jimmy Kimmel even bought a billboard in West Hollywood with the inscription: “I’m voting for Stephen”.

The Late Show already took home a top prize last week at the Creative Arts Emmys, for directing, and now it’s aiming for the top trophy in the talk show category. /Telegraph/
