David A Lindon who holds the Guinness World Record for creating the smallest handmade sculpture in history, crafted the micro sculpture to commemorate the centenary of Nikon’s JOICO microscope.

The JOICO, launched in 1925, was Nikon’s first full-scale microscope and could magnify images up to 765 times.

The sculpture measures 4.28mm x 1.2mm x 1.77mm, which is 80 times smaller than the original microscope.

It is covered in gold leaf and set onto the head of a solid gold pin.

The micro sculpture is displayed inside a protective glass dome with a built-in magnifier and powerful illumination.

It slowly rotates with a hidden mechanism in the base of the display.

The artwork was hand-delivered to Amsterdam by David, where it will be displayed at Nikon’s European headquarters and travel to exhibitions to celebrate the JOICO’s anniversary.

David is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of what is humanly possible, having created the world’s first wearable art gallery inside a watch along with the world’s first microscopic triptych painting.
