77th Primetime Emmy Awards winners: The Studio and Adolescence win big, and White Lotus snubbed

Teen actor Owen Cooper became the youngest ever male to win an Emmy Award at 15 years old, thanks to his impressive performance as a child accused of murder in the Netflix Drama Adolescence.

This series also snapped up the best Limited Series, writing, actor and supporting actress awards, giving it a total clean sweep in the highly competitive category and six awards in total.

Medical drama and predicted fan favourite The Pitt won Best Drama Series, along with its lead Noah Wyle, who won Best Actor in a Drama Series. Wyle and the creators of the show thanked frontline staff in emergency rooms and dedicated the award to them.

Playing Femme Fatale to Colin Farrell’s The Penguin paid off in droves for Cristin Milioti, who scored her first Emmy nom and win for her performance in HBO’s DC Drama series.

Crowd-pleasing Vegas comedy Hacks once again got its fair share of glory, with lead actress Jean Smart extending her Emmy total to seven and supporting actress Hannah Einbinder getting her first win out of four nominations.

The crowd erupted and chanted Stephen Colbert’s name when his recently cancelled late-night show was announced as the winner for Best Variety Talk Series.

“Sometimes you only get a sense of how much you love something when you think you might be losing it…I have never loved my country so desperately. God bless, be brave and if the elevator tries to keep you down, punch through to a higher floor,” Colbert said during his acceptance speech.

Hosted by “clean” and “deadpan” comedian Nate Bargatze, the 77th Emmy Awards focused mainly on categories covering acting, writing and directing.

Apple TV’s Severance topped the nominations this year with 27, followed by HBO Max’s Batman spinoff The Penguin with 24 nominations and holiday-from-hell anthology The White Lotus starring Kiwi actress Morgana O’Reilly.

Severance and The Pitt are big contenders for best drama at the Emmys.
