New Zealand age group international Charlotte Lancaster has scored a contender for the women’s A-League’s Goal of the Season with a stoppage-time winner for her Newcastle Jets side.

Lancaster (22) let fly with a left-footer from 35 metres to score the stunning goal in the Jets’ 2-1 midweek win against Sydney at Leichhardt Oval.

The goal ended a run of four defeats for the Jets, who have a string of Kiwi connections, with former Eastern Suburbs’ Stephen Hoyle in the head coach’s role, and the squad including Football Ferns striker Kelli Brown and goalkeeper Anna Leat, and age group international Olivia Page.

Lancaster, who played for Hoyle at Eastern Suburbs, is a former scholarship contract player at the Wellington Phoenix.

After trailing Sydney, the Jets levelled after half an hour but it took till the first minute of added time before they found their winner.

Lancaster received the ball just inside the Sydney half and, after pushing forward, she lined up her long-range shot and hammered it just inside the post.
