EB Games is leaving New Zealand and will close all its stores at the end of January, according to reports.
Inside Retail reported on Monday that the retailer’s MD, Shane Stockwell, had written to all local employees to inform them of plans to cease operations in the country.
Now, Radio NZ reports that another letter has been sent to employees confirming that all stores will be closed on January 31.
The Australian-based company has 38 sites in New Zealand.
Inside Retail has previously asked EB Games to clarify how many jobs will be lost; it did not receive a response.
EB Games is owned by GameStop, which recently unveiled a compensation package valued at roughly US$35 billion (NZ$60.7 billion) for CEO Ryan Cohen to turn around declining revenues.
