Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin and Invercargill are likely to receive some rain in the morning, but this should clear as the day progresses.

However, there is a low risk of thunderstorms in the morning about the northwest of the Tasman District and northern Buller as part of unsettled conditions over the northwest of the South Island.
Parts of the North Island are at risk of thunderstorms from midday to midnight, because of daytime heating and surface wind convergence that is expected to produce afternoon showers in more northerly parts.
Western Bay of Plenty, including including Rotorua, northern Taupō, Waikato, Coromandel Peninsula, as well as Northland, all have a low risk of thunderstorms towards the end of the day.
Moving into Sunday, the weather is expected to stay calm across New Zealand, with some cloudy periods and scattered rain in the east and north of the North Island, according to MetService.
Rain is likely to return at the start of next week, though, as more northern parts of the country can expect showers that turns to more consistent rain on Monday.
Periods of rain are already predicted from Coromandel Peninsula northwards accompanied by showers in the east, Bay of Plenty and Waikato.
